Year (Leap) as a Unit of Time
A year is a unit of time that represents the period it takes for the Earth to complete one full orbit around the Sun. In most calendars, a standard year consists of 365 days. However, to account for the extra approximately 0.2425 days in the Earth's orbital period, we introduce the concept of a leap year. A leap year occurs every four years, adding an additional day to the calendar, making it 366 days long instead of 365. This adjustment helps to synchronize the calendar year with the astronomical year. The rules governing leap years state that a year will be a leap year if it is divisible by four, but years divisible by 100 are not leap years unless they are also divisible by 400. Thus, the year 2000 was a leap year, while 1900 was not. This system ensures our calendars remain accurate over long periods.
