Volume
what is volume?
Volume expresses the amount of space that an object occupies. Volume is determined by other measurement so it is called a derived unit. You can determine the volume of a rectangular box by measuring it's three dimensions; length, width, and depth. The volume of the box equals the multiplication of the three dimensions.
Note that the volume of an object is deeply affected by two important factors: temperature and pressure. In most cases, volume increases when temperature increases and pressure decreases.
Units of volume
Any unit of length gives a corresponding unit of volume and every measuring system that exists defines a unit volume for that system.
Barrels, bushels, drams, gills, pecks, teaspoons, cubic inch, cubic foot, gallon and other units are used in the imperial system. Cubic meter, liter and other units are used in SI system.
